How Long Does a Property Settlement Take?

In this video, Accredited Family Law Specialist and Page Provan Special Counsel Jitesh Billimoria discusses financial settlements, matrimonial settlements or what is more commonly known as property settlements.

Transcript

Today I want to talk to you about financial settlements.

Financial settlements or matrimonial settlement or a property settlement can be documented either by way of consent orders or a financial agreement. It is the only way to bring an end to the financial relationship for parties, may that be in a marriage or in a de facto relationship.

Obviously, there are time limits for both married couples and de facto relationships, but it is important that the relationship is ended by way of documentation by way of court orders or financial agreement.

Where parties do not document their financial relationship in either of those manners, then the difficulty is that in time to come, if one party decides to bring an action against the other for a financial settlement, then it can bring about a lot of financial and emotional pain.

If you have not documented your financial settlement and require assistance or any advice regarding consent orders or a financial agreement, please do not hesitate to contact us at Page Provan.
