How I Can Help with Mediation

Thank you for visiting my website, my name’s Bruce Provan, I’m the Managing Director of Page Provan Family and Fertility Lawyers, we’re a law firm that practices exclusively in family and fertility law.
I’m a nationally accredited mediator and a family dispute resolution practitioner, and what that means is that I can assist parties by mediating their disputes in relation to parenting or property or really anything else to do with family law.
I’ve been practicing family law now for 32 years since I was admitted in 1991, and I hope that my experience can assist people to be able to resolve their disputes through mediation. I have a particular passion for mediation.
I think it’s a much better way of resolving disputes than going through the court process, and in fact, the statistics show that the vast majority of matters don’t go to a hearing in court and one of the reasons why is that the mediation process is successful the vast majority of the time.
Even for those matters that don’t resolve at mediation, parties usually keep negotiating, and then they eventually reach an agreement without the matter having to be decided by a judge, and for those parties who can resolve their matters at mediation, there is a huge saving in terms of time, and money, and stress.
To go through the court process, it can take years. It can cost tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, and if people can resolve their dispute through mediation, they manage to avoid all of that. The key to mediation is good preparation and coming into the mediation with the right attitude of wanting to try to resolve the matter.
If people can manage that, they can usually manage to resolve their differences at mediation. It’s important to get legal advice at some stage, preferably prior to the mediation. If people come to a mediation, it’s better that they know what their rights and obligations are and the range of possible outcomes should the matter be decided by a court.
So I encourage clients to consult with a lawyer, before they come to see me to help to mediate their dispute. So I hope that I can assist you and your former partner to be able to resolve the matter through mediation.
