Tour of Cape Town IVF lab

Tour of Cape Town IVF lab

Last week I was in Cape Town to speak at the annual family law conference there.

While I was there, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Dr Klaus Wiswedel, founder of the largest IVF clinic in South Africa, Cape Fertility Clinic. Dr Wiswedel was the first doctor to perform IVF in South Africa, and it is obvious on inspection that the clinic is run to the highest standards.

Cape Fertility is well known to many Australians- as 3 to 4 Australians go there every day. The reason is obvious- aside from the great location and high quality of the centre, South African egg donors are paid- unlike Australian donors. Desperate Australians come to Cape Town in the hope of becoming pregnant- something they believe that they cannot achieve at home.

The clinic is situated in the beautiful suburb of Claremont, Cape Town.

Thank you to Dr Wiswedel, Cape Fertility Clinic, and law firm de Klerk and van Geld for making the visit possible.

I walk through the legal landscape… Read More »Should You Go to Columbia for Surrogacy?

Surrogacy in Mexico: Important Update

In this video, I explained why Mexico has become a more attractive option for some intended parents than the United States — and why that does not mean the journey is easy or without serious legal pitfalls. As someone who has lived infertility, worked on more than 2,000 surrogacy journeys across 39 countries, and advised Australian… Read More »Surrogacy in Mexico: Important Update

Meta’s Surrogacy Policy Dilemma: Lessons from Facebook’s Review

A few years ago, Sarah Wynn-Williams interviewed me, as Facebook was looking at what position it should take about commercial #surrogacy. Facebook was concerned about the possibility of exploitation. Two great difficulties I pointed out were: What is commercial #surrogacy? There was no clear definition, and many shades of grey, making it difficult to characterise… Read More »Meta’s Surrogacy Policy Dilemma: Lessons from Facebook’s Review
