What a sad indictment of our society. When the world is celebrating International Women’s Day, including the spectacular lighting on Brisbane’s Story Bridge, domestic violence rates against women seem to be rising- and substantially.

The report by Queensland’s domestic violence task force led by Dame Quentin Bryce makes plain the depressing truth- despite over 25 years of domestic violence legislation, in itself a product of the women’s movement, rates are going up, not down. It appears not to be just a reporting anomaly, but substantive.
