Adoption Lawyers Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne
Adoption is a niche area in which we have practiced for many years. Our legal practice director Stephen Page’s first adoption case was over 30 years ago. Adoption cases include a standard adoption (of a child by prospective adoptive parents chosen by State authorities), step-parent adoptions (including where appropriate also applying for leave to adopt from the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia), relative adoptions, traditional adoptions seen in Torres Strait Islander culture and South Sea islander culture, such as in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu, international adoptions, informal adoptions (where formal adoptions are unable for one reason or another to occur, but the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia makes orders about parental responsibility and where the child lives), and crossover in some cases with surrogacy (as the form of parental establishment overseas of the child born through surrogacy is adoption for one or both parents, or the method of establishing parenthood in Australia for one or both parents is via adoption).
